David Ralston

If you`ve lived on Okinawa, Japan for at least a relatively short amount of time and have paid any attention to the local music scene, it is almost impossible that you haven`t heard the name David Ralston. One of the best kept secrets of Japan in terms of Blues music, Ralston has built up a huge reputation performing at various venues over the years and is positively a staple of life in Okinawa`s blues music scene. His band, suitably named The David Ralston band has been hard at work and just recently completed production of their latest album, Lucidity of Insanity; The new release is a mix of various shades of blues and roots rock with a tint of the Okinawan soul thrown into the mix for a very unique experience. From down and dirty bluesy to flowering acoustic melodies, the new album has all of the ingredients to make this one of the top records ever produced on Okinawa. Dave Ralston has released three previous albums: Indiana Slim, Nail it Down & Blue Sky. His second album, Nail it Down, was produced by rock music icon Delaney Bramlett who produced such greats as Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and Duane Allman. According to Ralston, Nail it Down was done in a short amount of time and was recorded when I didn't have a lot of experience. Delaney taught me so much while making that album and because he produced it, there is a lot more of Delaney in it than in Blue Sky. My last album was produced entirely by me and the DRB played on all of it which was a first. It sounds like we do live and folks have been asking for that for a long time.

"David is going to be a force to be reckoned with if he keeps it up. He's a special person, the world's going to hear a lot from him." - Delaney Bramlett

In 2000 David Ralston opened for Magic Slim and Otish Rush in the Japan Blues Festival. He played a solo acoustic set for around 8,000 enthusiastic fans. "They dug it and Otis Rush asked me to join him with Magic Slim for a jam at the end. I didn't have a guitar so Michael Dotson lent me his! That was one of the coolest things ever… being on stage with Otis and his Mesa Boogie rig on 10 breaking it down," Ralston said. The Commanding General of all Marine Corps Forces in Japan sent Ralston to play for every Marine and sailor in the Pacific Fleet for a program aptly named, "Beating the Blues". "I played a tour of all the Marine Bases in Japan.

16,000 saw our shows. I have played on stage with and opened for Sister Hazel, Mark Whitfield, Robert Cray etc…My Japanese credits are impressive here but no one in the states would know them. I've toured Japan over 15 times playing major venues." In addition, Ralston has pumped his version of the Blues and Roots music (often with a distincly Okinawan twist) over radio and TV via live broadcasts and packed houses and clubs from Naha to Tokyo.

"David Ralston is what is known as a triple threat musician. He's an emotionally charged vocalist, a mean as hell slide guitarist and a excellent songwriter whose blues tinged tunes cross the border between blues/roots rock and straight ahead contemporary alternative pop. The combination is a stimulating brew that is sure to stir your soul! We had a ball recording his latest CD "I've been waiting" And I'm confident that you will dig hearing it as much we did making it! " - Duke Robillard
